Light for the Last Days

For thus says the Lord God of Israel to me: “Take this wine cup of fury from My hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it. And they will drink and stagger and go mad because of the sword that I will send among them.” …
“Therefore you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “Drink, be drunk, and vomit! Fall and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.” ’ And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup from your hand to drink, then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “You shall certainly drink! For behold, I begin to bring calamity on the city which is called by My name, and should you be utterly unpunished? You shall not be unpunished, for I will call for a sword on all the inhabitants of the earth,” says the Lord of hosts.’ Jeremiah 25.15-29

Last time, I didn’t get around to giving you the rest of the world’s agenda. So, we do that tonight. All these things are really telling us that Jesus is coming soon and, before I get into this, we’ll just read a passage from Matthew 24 – a well-known passage where Jesus speaks about His return.

Taking it up in verse 36, He says:

36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. 37 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. 42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

Matthew 24.36-44

The Son of man is coming. Probably, the greatest intervention in human affairs since creation will be the Second Coming of Jesus. He right all the mess which humans have inflicted to the planet and He’ll bring in His ‘good new-world order’ in which Jesus will reign on the earth for a thousand years, and bring peace and justice to the world. It is something to look forward to; especially, as we witness the darkness of this present world.

And He says:

the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

So, the world outside will be not expecting it, but God wants you and me to be expecting it, to be ready – be ready for the coming of the Lord.

As we see this happening, we see there’s a kind of madness taking place in the world, and that madness, according to the Bible, is leading towards the coming of the one we call the Antichrist or the Beast, and the coming of a time of Great Tribulation.

At some stage in this sequence of events, the Rapture of the church will happen, and the believers in Jesus will be taken up to be with the Lord. We are going to see that (whatever the timing of the Rapture is) the push of the world towards the time of the Antichrist, and the world being played by what you might call a ‘spirit of madness’ endangering the whole fabric of society will be taking place.

A passage in the Book of Jeremiah chapter 25 says,

15 For thus says the Lord God of Israel to me: “Take this wine cup of [c]fury from My hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it. 16 And they will drink and stagger and go mad because of the sword that I will send among them.”

17 Then I took the cup from the Lord’s hand, and made all the nations drink, to whom the Lord had sent me: …

27 “Therefore you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “Drink, be drunk, and vomit! Fall and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.” ’ 28 And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup from your hand to drink, then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “You shall certainly drink!

Jeremiah 25.15-28

The passage implies that God is allowing a spirit of drunkenness, of madness, to come upon the world as they reject Jesus. They will vomit and go mad, bringing death and destruction to the world system in the last days.

And it came to pass also on another Sabbath, that He entered into the synagogue and taught. And there was a man whose right hand was withered.

And the scribes and Pharisees watched Him to see whether He would heal on the Sabbath day, that they might find an accusation against Him.

But He knew their thoughts, and said to the man who had the withered hand, “Rise up and stand forth in the midst.” And he arose and stood forth.

Then said Jesus unto them, “I will ask you one thing: Is it lawful on the Sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? To save life, or to destroy it?”

10 And looking round about upon them all, He said unto the man, “Stretch forth thy hand.” And he did so, and his hand was restored whole as the other.

11 And they were filled with madness, and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.

Luke 6.6-11

And talks like this illustrate that this is happening. It’s happening now. It is on its way now, and where the spirit of madness goes then people will have no light from the Lord.

Isaiah speaks about the people living in great spiritual darkness,

For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth,
And deep darkness the people;

Isaiah 60.2

They will have no light from the Lord, they won’t have the Holy Spirit and this will lead to the final Babylon world system which is dominated by the Antichrist and ruled by the Beast, which will be utterly destroyed at the Second Coming of Jesus to the Earth.

The following passage from Revelation speaks of the fall of Babylon, the last event to take place in the Great Tribulation period. The Book of Revelation says,

“Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird! For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury.”

And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. Render to her just as she rendered to you, and repay her double according to her works; in the cup which she has mixed, mix double for her. In the measure that she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, in the same measure give her torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart, ‘I sit as queen, and am no widow, and will not see sorrow.’ Therefore her plagues will come in one day—death and mourning and famine. And she will be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who judges her.

Revelation 18.2-8

The prophet is speaking here about another cup, the cup of Babylon where every foul spirit is being manifested in. This is the spirit of Babylon.

“Sit in silence, and go into darkness,
O daughter of the Chaldeans;
For you shall no longer be called
The Lady of Kingdoms.
I was angry with My people;
I have profaned My inheritance,
And given them into your hand.
You showed them no mercy;
On the elderly you laid your yoke very heavily.
And you said, ‘I shall be a lady forever,’
So that you did not take these things to heart,
Nor remember the latter end of them.

“Therefore hear this now, you who are given to pleasures,
Who dwell securely,
Who say in your heart, ‘I am, and there is no one else besides me;
I shall not sit as a widow,
Nor shall I know the loss of children’;
But these two things shall come to you
In a moment, in one day:
The loss of children, and widowhood.
They shall come upon you in their fullness
Because of the multitude of your sorceries,
For the great abundance of your enchantments.

10 “For you have trusted in your wickedness;
You have said, ‘No one sees me’;
Your wisdom and your knowledge have warped you;
And you have said in your heart,
‘I am, and there is no one else besides me.’
11 Therefore evil shall come upon you;
You shall not know from where it arises.
And trouble shall fall upon you;
You will not be able [c]to put it off.
And desolation shall come upon you suddenly,
Which you shall not know.

Isaiah 47.5-11

As a result of this God is going to bring judgment upon the present world system. Now, it is a very solemn subject but it is there in the Bible, and you can see God has reason, when you look at what is happening in the world today, to bring judgment upon the world, a world moving so much in rebellion against him.

The question then is: ‘How can we cope with living in such a world; what are we supposed to do?‘ Well, instead of drinking of the cup of madness and judgment, we must drink from the cup of salvation. Psalm 116 it says,

13 I will take up the cup of salvation,
And call upon the name of the Lord.

Psalm 116.13

There’s an alternative cup which we can drink from and that’s the cup of Salvation as we call on the name of Jesus and receive from Him His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit bears witness to Jesus, Yeshua / Jesus the Messiah.

Paul writing to Timothy said,

Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

2 Timothy 1.6-7

If you see the spirit of madness going out in the world, God wants to give you the Spirit of Love, of power and love and of a sound mind, and that is available now.

Because of that, we don’t need to fear what is taking place in the world around us. We can overcome it and God wants to stir up that gift which is in us by the Holy Spirit, and that way resist the spirit of the world by the power of the Lord Jesus.

32 Indeed the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and will leave Me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. 33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

John 16.32-33

We know that our times are in His hands and He says that nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus. He tells us also to let Him transform our minds.

As Paul wrote in Romans 12,

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Romans 12.1-2

So, there is an alternative present for us, and God wants us to drink of that cup of Salvation to allow our minds to be renewed by the Holy Spirit, and to have that understanding which is acceptable to God, and our service to Him which is reasonable and not to be conformed to this world. He wants us to come out of the present world system, to come out of Babylon, recognize what it is: Antichrist and  to join with Jesus Christ.

If we do this, there is a cost to be paid because we are going against the flow and against the majority, but it is worth paying it because we are drinking from the cup of Salvation through faith in Jesus.

Ultimately, we know that Babylon is going to fall. If you are drinking from the cup of Babylon, you are on the losing side. That cup is going to lead you to destruction. But, if you drink from the cup of Salvation, you are on the side of deliverance, those who choose to follow Jesus Christ are.

I guess you are all followers of Jesus, aren’t you? Yet, there are plenty of people out there who are not, and we need to get the message out to them so they can follow Jesus and be ready for the coming of the Lord.
