Light for the Last Days

SHORT TALK VIDEO

This corresponds to the Millennial Reign which is described in the Book of Revelation chapter 20.

Revelation 20 is the New Testament passage which tells us that there will be a Messianic Kingdom in which the Messiah will reign on the Earth.

Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; 3 and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while. 4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

Revelation 20.1-6

A lot of details there which I haven’t time to go into. Just to say that this prophecy tells you that there will be a time when the Messiah Yeshua / Jesus will reign on the earth for a thousand years.

During that time, there’ll be that peace and justice which Isaiah wrote about, and there’ll be a time for the fulfilment of all the Old Testament prophecies concerning the Messianic Kingdom age.

It’ll be limited to a period of a thousand years because, during this time, Satan is going to be bound, unable to influence the nations for a reason which is not quite explained. However, it’s there, in the scriptures.

Satan is loosed for a little while at the end of the thousand years, gathers his people for the last battle against the Lord, at which point he is thrown into the Lake of Fire and you have the end of the world and the end of this universe.

This is followed by the eternal state as we read in 2 Peter 3.10,

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

2 Peter 3.10-13

The final destination, according to this passage, and as we see in Revelation 21, is that this present world will be burned up, and that will be, literally, the end of the world.

The Second Coming of Christ to the earth is NOT the end of the world, it’s the End of the Age, the beginning of the Messianic Age which lasts a thousand years.

After the thousand-year reign of Messiah Jesus, this world, and not just this world but also the heavens, will be burned up and God will make a new one: a new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

How can God do that? Well, God is good! If you believe Him in the beginning, He can do what He likes with what He has made. And this is what the scripture says is going to happen.

Therefore, this world will come to an end but NOT at the Second Coming of Christ. This current age will come to an end at the Second Coming of Christ. That’s why people need to be ready now to meet with Jesus.

Whatever happens, you need to be ready to meet with Jesus because you don’t know when you’re going to die.

The fact is that this prophecy speaks about the New Jerusalem which we also read about in Revelation.

Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

Revelation 21.1-4

This is again speaking about the fact that this present heavens and earth will pass away. God is going to create a new one in which believers will be forever in glory with Him and then, we will be dwelling with God and God will wipe away every tear from our eyes. There’ll be no more death nor sorrow, nor crying, no more pain. Everything former will have passed away.

Do you want to go there? I hope so because that’s what’s on offer in the Gospel.

One of the really puzzling things is that so many people don’t want to go there. They prefer this present world!

Well, that’s their choice. But the fact is that this offer is there from God, that you can be there with Him forever, and that He’s going to have the last word. He made the world, is going to bring it to an end, and, if you trust in Him, you have a glorious future and a glorious hope.

One little illustration which I find interesting. We look at what is called ‘the mountain peaks of prophecy’.

One of the difficulties which people have when they read the Hebrew Prophets is to understand the order of events and to see how it fits in together. And sometimes the prophets themselves seem to see all the events which I’ve spoken about, of both the First and the Second Coming of Jesus, all coming together, at the same time.

Somebody compared it to a prophet looking at these events and he is seeing these mountain peaks in the distance.

First, all he sees is the mountain peak which is the First coming of Jesus, he sees the cross of Jesus Calvary, Jesus dying on the cross as a sacrifice for the sin of the world, and then, he sees the mountain peak which is the Second Coming of Jesus.

When you think about it, from afar, it looks like they’re together, but actually, when you get up close there’s a Great Valley of Time, a Valley of 2000 years or so which is the time which we’re living in now, the time of the church.

The prophet can’t see that Valley of Time, he can only see the mountain peaks.

Then, there’s another Valley of Time, the thousand years of the Messianic Kingdom age, before you see the third mountain peak which is the end of the world, and the burning up of this present ‘heaven universe’ and ‘earth universe’ before the creation of the new heavens and the new earth.

It is all there, in the Bible, and we can see it now. Looking back, we can see that there is plenty of time between the First and the Second Coming of Jesus. A lot of Christians fail to see the next one, the Millennial Reign, but it’s there in the Bible. And the challenge which God gives us is:

Do we believe what men say, even what some churches say, or do you believe what God says in his Word?

I believe what God says in his Word, and I believe it’s there, in the Bible. It has either happened or it will happen, or it’s in the process of happening.

As we look at this subject of the Second Coming of Jesus, we can see that the goal of the believer is to be there with Jesus, and be there with Jesus in the Millennial Kingdom, and be there with Him in the eternal state, in the new heavens and the new earth.

This doesn’t show you the alternative, which is that, when, at the end of the world, there is the Final Judgment, the Great White Throne Judgment, the wicked are thrown into the Lake of Fire for eternity.

That is another thing we don’t like to think about. Yet, it’s there in the Bible, and it reminds us that there is a choice.

There are two ways you can go, two paths: one which leads to life, one which leads to death, and the Second Coming of Jesus is going to be the day in which God judges the world in righteousness, according to how we have responded to the message of the Gospel. So, it’s important that we believe in Jesus.

  • ( Jesus said) do not think I came to destroy the LAW OR the PROPHETS. I did not come to destroy but to fulfil. For assuredly, I say to you, til heaven and earth pass away, one iota (little greek letter) or stroke ( little hook of emphasis) will by no means pass from the law till ALL is fulfilled.
    Matt 5: 17- 18

    Paul told Timothy :-
ALL Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
    2 Tim 3:16

    Peter said :-
For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and COMING of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His Majesty
( Transfiguration). For He received from God the Father honour and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: ” This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the Holy Mountain.
And so we have the PROPHETIC word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; knowing this first, that no prophecy of scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
    2 Peter 1 16 -21

The author of Hebrews urges us to exhort each other even more as we see the Day approaching.

Well, if we believe, and act upon, the FULL counsel of God, given to us in His infallible Word, from the first word of Genesis until the last word of the Revelation, enlightened to us by the Holy Spirit, we will, as Paul said in Ephesians, ‘ be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

    Psalm 119: 160
The entirety of Your word is truth,
And every one of Your righteous judgements endures forever.

Thank you Tony, for being a faithful teacher and preacher of God’s word, for the hope and encouragement you bring to the saints in explaining how the prophesies are unfolding, spiritually and globally, in the times in which we live. Also for your constant exhortation to those who are perishing to repent and receive God’s Yeshua ( salvation Jesus), ‘to the Jew first and also to the Greek.’

    • Thank you Carolyn for your encouragement and scriptural confirmation. The Word of God remains true and a light unto our feet. “For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake. For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4.5-6
