In fact, if you look through the scriptures, you’ll find that the image of the troubled sea is one which is used in a number of passages, often speaking of storms, of trouble. Generally, in the Bible, the sea which the prophets were concerned with was the Mediterranean Sea. So, it’s talking about events taking place around that area of the Mediterranean Sea, particularly bordering on the eastern part of the Mediterranean, which is where Eretz Israel is. But also, you find that the sea is a symbol in the Bible of troubled humanity, humanity in rebellion against God.
