Light for the Last Days

The EU – will it fall apart or come together?

Brexit being betrayed? Recent developments in the Brexit saga could end up with the Remain majority in parliament winning their battle against the 2016 Referendum result and keeping the country in the EU. As I write this on April 5, Mrs May’s deal has been rejected three times, parliament has voted to take control of the process itself, and has now secured a legal ruling that Mrs May must seek an extension of Article 50 to prevent leaving without a deal.

It is not certain that the EU will grant this extension, but if they do, the remain dominated parliament will work for the end result that is either BRINO (Brexit in name only) or no Brexit at all. Mrs May is trying to get a modified version of her agreement passed with help from Jeremy Corbyn. The price demanded will be staying in the Customs Union with some alignment to the Single Market. This means that Britain will still have to take rules from the EU, but will have no say in how the rules are made. In other words we will be the vassal state of Europe that Jacob Rees Mogg has spoken of, in a worse state of bondage than we were as full members of the EU.

If we end up with a long extension of Article 50 (up to two years) there will probably be a demand for a second referendum, with the option of remaining in the EU on the ballot paper. In this case the British establishment will combine with the powers in Brussels to get the ‘right result’ and keep us in the EU. So the 17.4 million people who voted to leave the EU will have their vote annulled and feel betrayed and lose faith in democracy.

Melanie Phillips summed up the reasons why many people, including myself, voted to leave the EU, saying they wanted ‘to defend our nation based on its own history, language, religion, culture and ethical values drawn from the Hebrew Bible and Christianity. … They want our laws to be passed by a democratically elected and sovereign parliament.  They do not want to see this replaced by a new world order under which the Western nation is superseded by trans-national laws and institutions, national borders are erased and biblical morality replaced by ideology – specifically, identity politics, moral relativism and multiculturalism.’ Melanie’s references to the Bible and the ‘new world order’ remind us that this is a spiritual question as well as a political and economic one. Bible prophecy connects the ‘new world order’ with the antichrist government prophesied for the great tribulation period in Revelation 13.

Most MPs have already rejected ethics based on the Bible. As we shall see in this article there are dark forces moving the world in the direction of the antichrist world order.  Here in the UK the Brexit issue has caused a major split in the Conservative Party. This could lead to the government falling and a general election won by Labour, now dominated by its Marxist Momentum wing. Labour’s proposed Chancellor, John McDonnell, has promised to work for a radical re-organisation of society. He said the civil service will need re-educating in a ‘new range of economic theories and approaches’ (in other words the Marxist economics which bankrupted the Soviet Union and Venezuela). Given the record of Marxists in power, Bible believing Christians will need re-educating too, so we had better be prepared for persecution and an antichrist government.

Across the channel there is a similar conflict taking place between those who want ‘more Europe’ and those who want less or even no Europe at all.  Italy, Poland and Hungary now have Eurosceptic governments which are in the populist camp and France has been riven by the ‘yellow vest’ protests against its ‘globalist’ President Macron.  An alliance of Eurosceptic ‘populists’ is planning to undermine the EU from within by gaining a large enough grouping in the European Parliament in the EU elections in May.  Italian deputy Prime Minister, Salvini, founded a joint campaign in October 2018 with other Eurosceptics to ‘fight the EU to save Europe’ and to protest against what he called ‘the Europe of bankers, founded on mass immigration and economic insecurity.’

This can be seen as another battle against the ‘New World Order’. Guy Verhofstadt, one of the most vocal cheer leaders for an EU supra-national government, gave a speech in 2001 on the need for Europe to become a model for a ‘New World Order’.

He said, ‘We now need a New World Order more than ever before. … Europe, must make a major contribution to building this New World Order. We could order the world on the basis of existing regional cooperation organisations …: The European Union, ASEAN, Mercosur, NAFTA, the African Union, the Arab League and SAARC in southern Asia. … The European Union is the model, which shows this is possible. The European Union has become a model for regional cooperation agreements worldwide; a source of inspiration for the structures of a new world yet to be created … a New World Order that will truly begin to close the gap between rich and poor.  I find it hard to imagine a greater political ambition.’

Guy Verhofstadt continues to be a leading voice for this cause. He wants the EU to use the Brexit crisis to create a more binding union in which power is taken from national governments and placed in the central EU government. So does French President Macron, who told the German parliament: ‘Europe not European nations must be stronger and win more sovereignty.’ EU members must give up their national sovereignty to Brussels as it pertains to ‘foreign affairs, migration, and development,’ as well as ‘an increasing part of our budgets and even fiscal resources.’ He has declared war on the populists accusing them of being ‘anger mongers backed by fake news’ who are a threat to the future of Europe.  In a letter to the citizens of the EU he wrote ‘Never since the Second World War has Europe been so essential. Yet never has Europe been in such danger.’

Behind the globalists stand an array of world government organisations, like the Bilderbergers, the Club of Rome, the Trilateral Commission.  They have influence over the main opinion makers in our society and promote the ‘diversity agenda’ aiming to break down national identity and the traditional family structure in society.  To this end migration is used to bring about a multi-racial, multi-cultural, multi-faith society which knows no borders.  This agenda promotes a form of tolerance, which is actually extremely intolerant of any dissenting views.  Biblical views on the sanctity of marriage and the one way of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ are taboo. You must give way to acceptance of homosexual marriage and the idea that all gods are equal. If you question any aspect of this process you risk being labelled ‘racist’, homophobic, Islamophobic, and will be publicly vilified and in some cases may lose your job.

Is the EU prophesied in the Bible?

The idea of world government leads us to consider the prophetic connection with all this. I wrote an article on this in our April 2016 edition ‘The EU is it prophesied in the Bible’, which is available under ‘Globalisation’ in our Articles page.

Bible prophecies indicate that in the last days of this age a confederation of nations will be formed out of which the antichrist will arise in the seven-year period of the great tribulation which precedes the second coming of Christ to the earth.  This has been referred to as the ‘Revived Roman Empire.’

Daniel 2 records a dream given to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon which the Hebrew prophet Daniel interprets to him, during the time of the Jewish captivity in Babylon.  In his dream the king saw a ‘great image, whose splendour was excellent … This image’s head was of fine gold, its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze, its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of clay. You watched while a stone was cut out without hands, which struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces.’  Daniel 2.31-33.

The interpretation Daniel gives connects this dream to a series of empires which would follow Babylon, in different stages of world development. These empires are interpreted as the Babylonian, Persian, Greek and Roman empires.  The Roman Empire is represented by the legs of iron.  This will be followed by the feet of iron and clay.  During the time of the feet of iron and clay a stone will smite the image and break it in pieces.  The stone represents the kingdom of God which will bring an end to these Gentile world empires and fill the earth.  The New Testament connects this prophecy in Daniel to the second coming of Jesus Christ prophesied in Revelation. At this time ‘the kingdoms of this world will become the kingdom of our God and of His Christ (Messiah) and He shall reign for ever and ever.’ Revelation 11.15. Revelation 20 describes how Jesus will set up His Millennial kingdom, ruling for 1000 years on earth, a prophecy linked to such passages as Isaiah 2 and 11 and Zechariah 14 which speak of Messiah’s rule on earth.

This means that ‘the iron and clay’ will be in power at the end of days before the return of Jesus Christ.  Since all the prophecies of the Bible point to the fact that we are now living in the last days before Jesus returns this means that this ‘iron and clay’ of Daniel 2 is relevant to us today.  The iron and clay comes out of the legs of iron which is the Roman Empire.  Since the Roman Empire fell there have been various attempts to bring it together again.  The European Union is the final attempt to do this.

Daniel’s interpretation of the meaning of the iron and the clay is this:

Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; yet the strength of the iron shall be in it, just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay.  And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile.  As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay.  Daniel 2.41-43.

A union that is partly strong and partly fragile describes the present state of the EU.  There are forces which are dividing it and pulling it apart and forces which are holding it together.

Daniel 7 deals with the same sequence of events, adding one important detail which points to the power which will hold it together.  Daniel has a vision of four great beasts: a lion (representing Babylon), a bear (Persia), a leopard (Greece) and ‘a fourth beast dreadful and exceedingly strong’ (the Roman Empire).  Out of the fourth beast comes a ‘little horn’ who ‘speaks pompous words’ (Daniel 7.8).  The ‘little horn’ is the antichrist who takes power over the revived Roman Empire in the last days.  In Daniel’s vision his power will be broken by ‘One like the Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven’ who would then have an everlasting dominion over ‘all peoples, nations and languages’ (Daniel 7.13-14).  Jesus quotes this passage about His return in Matthew 24.30 and 26.64.  This confirms that these events have a connection to the events of the last days and the second coming of Jesus Christ.

The book of Revelation gives more detail on this.  In Revelation 17.10 we read of seven kings, of which ‘five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come.’  ‘The one who is to come’ will ‘continue a short time.’  Then out of this seventh kingdom will come the eighth, who is identified as the beast or antichrist.  The five kings that have fallen are five previous empires that have had significance in the Bible – Egypt, Assyria (prior to the time of Daniel) and Babylon, Persia and Greece (at the time of Daniel and afterwards).  The one that ‘is’, i.e. the sixth in this line of kings, is Rome, the empire that was in power at the time when the apostle John wrote the Revelation.  So the seventh is the one who is ‘yet to come’ – the revived Roman Empire.

In Revelation 17.11 we read ‘The beast that was and is not is himself also the eighth and is of the seven and is going to perdition.’  If the ‘seventh’ is the revived Roman Empire, then the eighth referred to here is the beast or antichrist who emerges out of it.  Some kind of crisis may propel him to power.  This could be a financial crisis, since one of the results of his rule will be a change in the money system with the ‘mark of the beast’ system being brought in (Revelation 13.16-18).  Since the financial crisis will be global in its dimension, this could lead to some kind of a world government emerging with the antichrist at its head.

Revelation 17 also speaks of ‘ten kings’ who ‘receive authority for one hour (symbolic of a short time) as kings with the beast’ and ‘give their power and authority to the beast’ (verses 12-13).  Some have said this cannot refer to the EU because it does not have 10 nations but 28 (or 27 if Britain succeeds in leaving). However it is not necessary that the ’10 kings’ represent heads of nations. It could be ten powerful men in the council running the ‘empire’.

In verse 14 we read that: ‘These (the 10 kings) will make war with the Lamb (Jesus Christ), and the Lamb will overcome them…’ As with Daniel’s prophecy discussed earlier, we see that this final empire is opposed to the kingdom of God and true Christians. It exists at the time of Jesus Christ’s return. When He returns this kingdom will be overthrown, as the Lord Jesus takes control of the nations.

It is significant that the ‘Treaty of Rome’ was the founding treaty of what has become the EU. Henri Spaak, one of its founding fathers said about the day the Treaty of Rome was signed in 1957: ‘We felt like Romans on that day.  We were consciously recreating the Roman Empire once more.’  Speaking about the Euro currency, former EU Commission President Romano Prodi said in October 1999: ‘For the first time since the fall of the Roman Empire we have the opportunity to unite Europe.’

What if the Euro dies?

As we have seen Daniel 2 indicates that this union will be partly strong and partly fragile, something which describes the present state of the EU. One of the main stress points in the EU today is the Euro currency, used by 19 countries across the continent. Nikolai Hubble has written a new book with the provocative title, ‘How the Euro dies.’  His argument is that the Euro is a political project designed to hold the nations of Europe together, but it will eventually collapse.  If the EU falls apart then it cannot be the fulfilment of this prophecy.  But if it holds together and is strengthened even as a result of the crises which are coming upon it, then it most likely is the fulfilment of this prophecy or at least a stage on the way to its fulfilment.

It is not easy to sum up the complex economic arguments of Hubble’s book in a few lines of this article, but in brief he says that the eurozone is built on a violation of basic economic rules which he describes as ‘The Unholy Trinity’:

  1. Eurozone countries have to stick to fixed exchange rate and interest rates thanks to the euro.
  2. They have ‘a messy, semi-independent monetary policy’ set by their own national governments, but regulated by the European Central Bank (ECB).
  3. Capital flows between countries meaning money can flee from one part of the eurozone into the other, causing a continual sovereign debt crisis in the weaker economies.

He says this will cause the fall of the euro: ‘Either countries will abandon the euro’s fixed exchange rate and return to their own currency or capital flight will see money leave southern Europe for the north triggering a banking or sovereign debt crisis or countries will seek to regain control of their monetary policy by leaving the euro. … I’m expecting all three.’  (page 26).

This situation has already caused the Greek crisis which came close to bringing down the euro in 2011.  Now he sees Italy as the key country which will cause this collapse.  The high exchange rate for the euro, which benefits Germany, traps struggling economies like Italy in what he describes as the ‘Eternal Recession Machine’.  They can’t adjust their exchange rate as they could when they had their own national currency.

As a result money is fleeing out of the weak economies of southern Europe into the stronger economies of northern Europe.  On one hand it is going from one country to another, but on the other it is still in the same monetary zone.  To deal with this imbalance the EU has invented what is called the Target2 system, which is necessary to keep the amount of money in each country in the eurozone stable.

Hubble explains this: ‘When Italians or Greeks buy cars from Germany or invest their money in German banks which they think is safer for the future, the money flows out of Italy or Greece into Germany.  … Target2 is the system by which the money is sent back to rebalance things.  … Every euro that flees countries like Italy or Greece is sent straight back south again but as a sort of loan.  …  Target2 is an automated backdoor bailout mechanism for southern Europe with no limit, no costs and no obligation to actually pay up ever.  And the lenders in northern Europe have no choice but to go along with the programme or leave the eurozone.’  (page 27-8)

He says the problem is a lose – lose situation for both parties which is about to become worse because the ECB is tightening its monetary policy. He says, ‘A huge government and private debt burden in Italy is slowly crushing the government and the banks. This is why money is fleeing for the safety of banking systems of the north.  Put all this together and the conclusion is clear:  Italy will go broke, leave the euro and trigger the greatest financial panic in history.’

Since all economies are linked this would also set off a global recession which would affect all nations, including Britain. Nikolai Hubble writes: ‘Can you imagine a bankruptcy ten times the size of Greece and four times the size of Lehman Brothers? … There will be a banking crisis that spreads around the world like in 1997 and 2008 thanks to contagion.’  He says this could lead to the death of the Euro currency and the break-up of the EU.

The people working on the global government project will want to do what they can to prevent this happening.  There are those, like globalist financier George Soros, who agree that there is something wrong with the set-up of the Euro.  If they can’t stop the financial crisis, then they could use it as ‘another step towards the United States of Europe’, a possibility Hubble explores in Chapter 11 of his book. In other words, turn the EU into a real country called Europe in which nations give up any pretence at sovereignty and control over their budgets and taxation system.  National parliaments are overruled by the elite and their economies totally integrated into the central EU economy.  Guy Verhofstadt has called for the EU to use the Brexit crisis to change the EU from what he calls an ‘ineffective union’, a ‘loose confederation of nations’ which ‘pick and choose its policies’ into ‘a real union’ in which membership of the EU means acceptance of its control from the centre.  In theory they have already agreed to this in the terms of the Lisbon Treaty signed by EU members in 2007.

Those who resist this process could be removed from power and the crisis used as an excuse to take control over the population, banning opposition political parties.  It may be claimed that this is a temporary measure in order to bring peace and security, but the temporary measure then becomes a permanent state in which all power is concentrated in the central authority and a dictatorship is put into place.  It may use slogans of peace and freedom but it will really be a new form of totalitarianism in which a central elite rule the masses, who are brainwashed into subservience by the media and Internet mind manipulation and control.

Estonia and the digital New World Order.

The late New Zealand evangelist Barry Smith, who pioneered much of the teaching on the 666 system of Revelation 13 arising out of the globalisation process, used to say that the globalists use social experiments in small nations to test out plans they have for the rest of the world.

Estonia is a small Baltic state with a population of 1.3 million, which came out of the Soviet Union after the fall of Communism and is now a full member of NATO, the EU and the eurozone.   After the fall of the USSR this country was built up as a technological hub and an experimental base for creating a universal database for its citizens containing all their vital information.

Despite its small size Estonian representatives featured highly in the recent Bilderberg conference, a major globalist organisation bringing together leaders of industry, finance and government in pursuit of global governance.  High officials (who are also members of Bilderberg) have been visiting Estonia and advising on developments.  A you tube presentation by Truthstream media entitled ‘Bilderberg and the Digital New World Order’ describes Estonia as a ‘live social experiment on how we are going to live next.’

People are given a digital personal ID card which becomes the only card for everything they do and is used for all aspects of life.  It has a personal unique ID number on it and a microchip which is able to secure and protect identity for all transactions for banking, healthcare and online activity.  You can vote with it and make all your transactions with the government, including paying taxes.  It takes an average person 3 minutes to do their income tax returns because they have already got their banking information linked up with their government information.  Estonians interviewed on the programme said how much they like the scheme, because it is very convenient and has everything you need in one place and you don’t need to remember passwords.

Government and law enforcement officers also like it as it is an effective way to know what the citizens are up to.  The card is connected to the Estonian Genome centre which gathers people’s personal data, medical history and DNA.  The right of ownership of this information is transferred to the government and to the police, so any person’s identity can be instantly checked.  Everything you do can be tracked and traced, what train tickets you buy, where you go, what you buy and sell.  This is also your connection to the Internet, so it means that you can be traced on the Internet via the ‘digital avatar’ which is linked to your real person.  This kind of information could be very useful for governments fighting against crime, tax evasion, terrorism etc.  It also has potential for control of the population, what opinions you hold, how you use your money, where you go, who you associate with and so on.

Estonia has declared itself the first digital nation and says that anyone anywhere in the world can apply for e-residency, which gives you a similar card and registration as an e-citizen of Estonia. You can start a company anywhere in the world and run it through your e-estonia card.  e-estonia website announces it is creating ‘A digital world for world citizens that gives them a digital government.  Our new digital world knows no borders and great business ideas are no longer limited by where you live or where you work.  e-estonia is a digital nation for global citizens.’

A global solution and / or the 666?

e-estonia may be a trial run for a plan proposed by EU Commissioner Avramopoulos to make biometric ID cards compulsory throughout the EU. Each card will include a person’s fingerprint and be linked to a biometric database so it can be used to track those who have the cards. The aim is to resolve issues of identity, migration, crime and terrorism. In the event of a financial crisis it could also give the government power to control how much money people have, what they buy and sell and to keep them compliant. I have already written in this magazine about how China’s credit score system operates to give the state control over how people buy and sell and to bring those who have ‘wrong opinions or life styles’ into line (January 2018 edition, available on request).

The UN has expressed the desire to bring in some kind of a global ID card system complete with biometric data, to give every person on the earth a ‘digital identity.’  The UN’s ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ also known as ‘Agenda 2030,’ calls for providing ‘legal identity’ and ‘birth registration’ for ‘all.’  A parallel effort pushing global IDs hopes to abolish cash and move towards a cashless global society in which every transaction can be tracked.

If you put all the data in one place, it doesn’t matter which country you are in, you can’t escape it.  You end up in a world government in which you have a digital personality which is linked to your person and without which you cannot function in society and you can’t buy or sell.  All your money will be in that chip and access to it will depend on the unique ID number in it.

If you don’t want it or if you protest about it or you do something anti-social, against the regime, they can then they just turn off your chip and you have nothing.  You can’t buy food, you can’t do anything.  It’s a way to total control of the people.

There is just one more problem.  You might lose the card or have it stolen, in which case you are cut off from everyday activity.  The answer to that is to implant the chip in your body so it can’t be stolen, lost or broken.

Does this remind you of something?

And he causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666. (Revelation 13.16-18).

Postscript on parliament.

Most people, whatever they voted, have been appalled at the British parliament’s handling of Brexit. I believe one reason for the confusion is the judgement of God on parliament itself for all the anti-God legislation it has passed over several years.

One more example of this took place on the very day parliament took it upon itself to decide the fate of Brexit (March 25th). It first passed its new LGBT-inclusive regulations for Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) by 538 votes to 21. This will require all secondary schools to teach pupils about sexual orientation and gender identity, and all primary schools to teach about different families, including those with LGBT parents. In other words children as young as five will be indoctrinated with homosexual and transsexual propaganda, forcing them to repeat slogans like ‘It’s okay to be gay’. Parents who object to this teaching on religious grounds will not be able to withdraw their children from it and teachers who disagree with it will have to teach it or risk losing their jobs.

Only 21 members of parliament could be found to vote against this anti-God indoctrination of our children.  No wonder God is throwing them into confusion and holding them to derision, as we read in Psalm 2 on the back page of this magazine. They are bringing God’s judgement down upon themselves and the nation.  May the Lord have mercy on us.
