Light for the Last Days

Signs of the Times – 2nd March 2020

Coronavirus – end time implications.

‘Famines and pestilences’ Matthew 24.7-8

When Jesus gave the disciples the signs of His Second Coming, one of the things He said was that there would be rumours of wars and ‘famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.  All these are the beginning of sorrows.’ Matthew 24.7-8. These things are happening now.

The number of victims of the coronavirus continues to rise, and many are speculating that this could potentially become the worst global pandemic since the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918.  A number of social media outlets are claiming that the situation is much worse than the authorities are telling us.  Here are some items from a report by Douglas McAlvany ‘Understanding the proliferating Coronavirus pandemic’:

“There is much confusion, disinformation, and cover up by the Chinese government, the World Health Organization (WHO), the CDC, the controlled global media, and even the US government regarding this deadly virus (which is rapidly morphing into a pandemic). There is a rapidly growing body of evidence that the Chinese government, WHO, and the global media are covering up the true severity of this viral outbreak.

The government of China has issued “harsh warnings to silence social media postings” from users who are trying to survive the quarantined cities, which now encompass over 125 million mainland Chinese.  Social media users in Wuhan, especially doctors and nurses, have been sharing their experiences and posting videos on social media to alert everyone of the true situation, which the authorities find embarrassing. People who tell the truth online are accused of ‘spreading rumours.’”  The regime has posted a notice saying “All those who spread fake news and thus disturb social order will face up to three years in prison, detention, or disciplinary action. Those who have caused serious consequences will be given 3-year to 7-year prison terms.”

The Chinese government has totally quarantined (i.e., locked down, sealed off) 23 major cities with a total population of 125 million people – the largest such quarantine/lockdown in world history? (And it may even be larger than that by the time you read this.) The military has surrounded these cities, has blocked all exit roads with huge truckloads of dirt and boulders, and has orders to shoot to kill anyone trying to escape.

Everyone in quarantined cities is ordered to stay in their house or dwelling, with only one family member allowed to go out and buy food every second day.  Grocery store shelves in locked-down cities are virtually empty as the food supply chain is breaking down. All dead bodies are immediately taken to crematoriums, without funerals, and cremated – no bodies can be buried.’

The virus has now spread to every province of China, with more and more cities facing lockdown, including Beijing and Shanghai.  Now the whole country is facing isolation as airlines stop flights in and out of the country and Russia closes its 2,600 mile border with China.  Fear of contagion is spreading around the world with cases confirmed in nearly 60 countries on all five continents. Worst hit are South Korea, Iran, Italy and Japan.  As the number of cases in Britain rises, health minister Matt Hancock has warned that entire cities in the UK could be shut down to stop the virus spreading.

The financial/economic implications of this pandemic are huge. Already travel, tourism, and businesses across Asia (not just in China) are collapsing.  Hotels, shopping malls and restaurants are half or more empty, real estate is beginning to decline sharply, Asian stock markets are very shaky, and across Asia, unemployment is rising rapidly – and all of this is only a month or so into the crisis.

It’s all 100 times worse in China (the second-largest economy in the world, and the largest manufacturing nation in the world). Virtually everything manufactured in the world today (cars, trucks, electronic equipment, computers, cell phones, and almost everything else) has parts made in China. With up to 75% of factories now shuttered in large parts of China, what are the prospects for this global supply chain over the next three to nine months if this pandemic continues to grow and spread?

China must now decide to either open the factories and risk losing up to 15% of the workers to the virus, or close the factories and lose the nation to economic collapse. If they keep the factories closed and enforce long-term quarantines to save lives, they will suffer a devastating economic implosion, likely followed by massive social upheaval and possible collapse of the ruling communist regime.

The country’s small businesses are facing a head on collision with an iceberg, because according to the Nikkei, over 85% of small businesses – which employ 80% of China’s population – expect to run out of cash within three months, and a third expect the cash to be all gone within a month. Should this happen, not only will China’s economy collapse, but China’s $40 trillion financial system will disintegrate, as it is suddenly flooded with trillions in bad loans.  For more on this go to this article on China’s potential financial Armageddon.

Given China’s massive investment in the world economy, especially in Africa and South America and here in the UK, the potential for a worldwide slump is huge.  On one day, February 24th, $1 trillion was wiped of share values around the world.  The next round of financial crisis is already upon us and looks likely to get much worse in the coming months.  If it hits the USA (most likely) it will damage Donald Trump’s chances of being re-elected as President.

According to official reports the source of disease was a market selling live animals, including snakes and bats for eating.  The alternative explanation is that it came out of the Wuhan National Biosafety Laboratory, the only one of its kind in China, designated for studying dangerous pathogens like SARS and Ebola.  Before its January 2018 opening, biosafety experts and scientists from the US expressed concerns that a virus could escape the lab, warning of the danger of lab animals that scientists at the Wuhan lab intended to inject with viruses.

Now, a respected epidemiologist who recently caught flack for claiming in a twitter threat that the virus appeared to be much more contagious than initially believed is pointing out irregularities in the virus’s genome that suggests it might have been genetically engineered for the purposes of a bioweapon.  The alternative is that it may have been created as a vaccine that has gone wrong. For the rest of the story go to    Another leaked report says that workers at the bio lab had sold dead animals used in experiments there to the meat market to make money for themselves.

Just over three months ago, a “high-level pandemic exercise” entitled “Event 201” was held in New York City.  On October 18th the John Hopkins Center for Health Security, in conjunction with the World Economic Forum and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, brought together “15 leaders of business, government, and public health” to simulate a scenario in which a pandemic was ravaging the planet.   The programme discussed how to respond to such a virus, by ensuring rapid international distribution of medical countermeasures, maintaining travel and trade during pandemics and reducing their economic impact. According to its publicity: ‘The exercise illustrated areas where public/private partnerships will be necessary during the response to a severe pandemic in order to diminish large-scale economic and societal consequences.  The virus was called coronavirus and the pandemic although limited at first in this imaginary scenario it ended up killing 65 million people.’

Some are speculating that the two events are connected and the situation is being used as a deliberate experiment to test how the world responds to such a crisis and to show the need for a global authority to react to and control such crises.  ‘Globalists Look To Exploit Coronavirus In Push For Global Government’ is an article on the Prophecy News Watch site showing the potential for this crisis to be used in the globalist agenda.  For more on this go to:

Whatever happens this epidemic is another reminder of human frailty and the fragility of our world in which sudden destruction can come in a moment of time and sweep away people’s peace and security (see 1 Thessalonians 5).  The fact that the modern world is so interconnected means that such things happening in one corner of the world can spread rapidly around the world. It is also another sign that the world is moving towards the time of great tribulation when the four horsemen of the Apocalypse ride out bringing war, famine, pestilence and death (Revelation 6) in line with Jesus words in Matthew 24.7-8 quoted at the beginning of this article.  The wise person will trust in Jesus and build his house on the rock of faith and obedience to God’s word (Matthew 7.24-27) and look for His soon coming as the one hope for deliverance from the calamities which are coming on the world today.

Extreme weather around the world.

‘Distress of nations’  Luke 21.25

Here in Britain we have seen two major storms, Ciara and Dennis, which have caused widespread flooding and misery.  Storm Dennis was the second strongest North Atlantic cyclone since records began more than 150 years ago. It dumped more than a month’s worth of rain in a few hours in South Wales, prompted the UK Environment Agency to issue a record number of flood warnings for one day and caused widespread severe flooding across parts of the country.  It hit several other European countries including Iceland, where winds of 160 mph were recorded, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, France and northern Spain with very heavy rain and hurricane force winds.

This is just one of a number of storms bringing torrential rains and flooding and causing havoc around the world.  The USA has seen unprecedented flooding and landslides in Mississippi state and Tennessee. After months of drought leading to catastrophic fires, much of eastern Australia has been hit by extreme wet weather causing flooding in New South Wales and Queensland, a welcome relief to the fires, but adding another environmental problem to the country.  There have also been major floods in New Zealand and Indonesia. Around 100,000 people have been affected by flooding Jakarta, capital of Indonesia, a city of around 10 million souls. This is an ongoing problem there as the sea level is rising, the city sinking and parts of it may have to be abandoned and the population relocated. There have been extreme weather events in much of Africa, causing catastrophic flooding in Rwanda, Zimbabwe, northern Cape region of South Africa, Madagascar and Tanzania.  South America too has been hit by floods in Bolivia, Peru, Argentina and south eastern Brazil which has recorded the heaviest rains since records began.

The extreme wet weather in east Africa has led to breeding of billions of locusts, eating everything in sight in east Africa right now.  This has been compared to a scene from the Book of Exodus as ravenous locust swarms that are “the size of cities” consume crops at a staggering pace.  This could cause famine on the African continent that is unlike anything we have ever seen before. The locusts are spreading across the south of the Arabian peninsula and further east towards Iran, Pakistan and India.  The numbers involved, the UN has warned, are “unprecedented”. If they are not contained, their appetites will trigger famine, destroy livelihoods for local farmers and undermine the food security of a group of countries with a combined population of nearly 2 billion.

There has also been extremely cold and snowy weather in parts of Canada, northern USA, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey.  The snow has triggered a series of avalanches in Afghanistan and Pakistan destroying hundreds of homes and killing many people. In eastern Turkey and western Iran thousands of vehicles have been buried under monster mounds of snow; people are missing, presumed frozen; water and power supplies have been cut-off; and drifts as high as 6 meters have blocked key passes.  Piercing cold and ice storms have worsened the living conditions of thousands of Syrians sleeping in the open air after fleeing a government offensive in the country’s northern province of Idlib.   Very cold and snowy weather has hit Saudi Arabia and Iraq with snow falling in Baghdad for the first time in a hundred years.

The big question is whether man made climate change is responsible.  According to most reports, the science is proven and there is no denying that is the result of global warming.  But not every one agrees and there are many who dispute this and say it is the result of changes in nature which we are not able to control. Not all the results are global warming, some are actually increase in very cold weather.  According to NASA, unusual things are happening in the sun as solar activity has dropped to the lowest level in 200 years. A ‘solar minimum’ in sunspot activity would actually cause not global cooling, not warming. For more on this see

Whatever the reason for this weird weather it is clear that the earth is under great stress at the present time, with drought, storms, floods, major earthquakes and unusual volcanic eruptions taking place in different places.  There are also unseen things taking place, like the rapid movement of the magnetic north pole and the weakening of the earth’s magnetic field which could have a major impact on our environment.

The potential for worldwide food crisis as a result of all this is outlined in this article by Michael Snyder: ‘Global food production is being hit from seemingly every side. Thanks to absolutely crazy weather patterns, giant locust armies in Africa and the Middle East, and an unprecedented outbreak of African Swine Fever in China, a lot less food is being produced around the world than originally anticipated.  Even during the best of years we really struggle to feed everyone on the planet, and so a lot of people are wondering what is going to happen as global food supplies become tighter and tighter. … Never before in the modern era have we seen so many major threats to global food production emerge simultaneously.  There are more than 7 billion people living on our planet today, and we need to be able to grow enough food to feed everyone.  If we aren’t able to do that, food prices will start to get really high, and people in the poorest areas simply will not have enough food to feed their families.

According to an article in The Guardian, ‘Humanity is under threat from perfect storm of crises based on a report, which took the form of a survey of 222 leading scientists from 52 countries was conducted by the international sustainability network Future Earth.  Climate, extreme weather, biodiversity, food and water crises could lead to ‘systemic collapse’.  The world is facing a series of interlinked emergencies that are threatening the existence of humans, because the sum of the effects of the crises is much greater than their individual impacts, according to a new global study.’  The problems cannot be solved by individual nations trying to tackle them on their own, the article says, but by a collective effort of humanity working together.

This could be a formula for a kind of world authority trying to solve the problem.  On September 18th, the Pope called for a supranational, legally constituted body to enforce United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 30) and implement “climate change” policies. He wants this body to deal with “the great contemporary challenges of climate change, new slavery and peace.” The Pope has said that the world needs a different kind of economy, “one that cares for the environment and does not despoil it.” Reading between the lines the pope’s call is for nations to surrender their powers to a central authority, the UN, in order to deal with climate change, population control and refugees.  The pope says this should become a ‘legally constituted authority’ able to manage the affairs of member nations. In plain English this is a world government.

Our planet is becoming increasing unstable, and what we have experienced so far is just the beginning.  We are living in the time of the beginning of sorrows that Jesus spoke of, when there will be increase of earthquakes and famines as in Matthew 24 and natural disasters as in Revelation 8.7-12, which speaks of trees burning down, fish dying in the sea, fresh water polluted and the sun darkened in the sky.  At such a time people may look to some kind of humanistic world government to save us from disaster, an outcome which may well fit in with the coming of the antichrist world government of Revelation 13.

Many of these things are beyond any human ability to solve or control and require our Creator to step in to the situation to save the planet from destruction.  This is exactly what the Bible says will be happening in the last days, when ‘there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.  Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” Luke 21.25-28.

When Jesus comes, this time as King of kings and Lord of lords, with all the power of God at His disposal, He will fix both the spiritual and physical problem of the world.  Now is the time to make sure of our place in His kingdom by repenting of ours sins and believing the Gospel, that Christ / Messiah died for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day, to give forgiveness and eternal life to all who put their trust in Him.

Syrian war horror.

Russia and Turkey on opposing sides.  Where is this going?

Horrific scenes are now coming out of Idlib province in northern Syria as Syrian regime forces backed by Russia carry out indiscriminate bombing in the last remaining stronghold of opposition to Assad.  What is taking place is being condemned as a crime against humanity which Russia as well as the Syrian regime is implicated in.

The regime aims to remove all the opposition fighters, including  Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, a group linked to al-Qaeda. Sky News reported war crimes being committed.  Seventy hospitals have been bombed out of action, and a river of desperate humanity is fleeing the onslaught which is targeting civilians and fighters indiscriminately.  The regime is even targeting camps of fleeing refugees. Around 900,000 people including a large number of children are currently displaced from their homes, heading towards the Turkish border.  Turkey is determined to prevent more Syrian refugees crossing the border into its territory, so they really have nowhere to go in the freezing rain and dreadful conditions that are coming on the area.

Some of the opposition forces are linked to Turkey, and the situation is now leading to the possibility of an open conflict between Turkey and the Assad regime, which could bring in Russia.  Turkey already has forces in the north of Syria, adjacent to its border, in an area formerly held by the Kurds. It has moved some of its forces into neighbouring Idlib, including tanks, armoured personnel carriers and commandos.

These are now coming into conflict with Syrian army forces.  On 28 February reports came in of 48 pro-Damascus troops being killed by Turkish strikes after 34 Turkish soldiers were killed earlier in the week.over the past 24 hours.

With diplomacy sponsored by Ankara and Moscow to ease tensions in tatters, Turkey has come closer than ever to confrontation with Russia on the battlefield. Speaking in Istanbul, Erdogan said he had told Putin in a phone call to stand aside and let Turkey “to do what is necessary” with the Syrian government alone. He said Turkey does not intend to leave Syria right now.  Syria’s army simultaneously declared the airspace over northwest Syria closed to planes and drones, pledging to down any aircraft that violates it.  Turkish forces then targetted and shot down two Syrian government planes over the Idlib region of northwest Syria.

After the death of its soldiers in a Syrian government air strike on Thursday, Turkey said it would allow migrants it hosts to freely pass to Europe.  Erdogan said in Istanbul on Saturday that 18,000 migrants has crossed the border, without providing evidence, adding that the number could rise to 25,000-30,000 on Saturday.  Greek police fired teargas toward migrants who were gathered on its border with Turkey and demanding entry on Saturday.

This crisis raises the potential for a million Syrians to try to get out of Syria into Turkey and Turkey to send further millions into Europe, creating a conflict between Turkey and the EU.  It is also a potential conflict between Turkey, a NATO member and the Assad regime and its backer Russia. Russia relies on access to its Black Sea ports through the Bosporus Straits through Istanbul in Turkey.

This situation is a major headache for Russian President Putin, who has tried to bring together a coalition of Russia, Iran and Turkey to resolve the Syrian crisis.  It could also be a brake on the progress towards the Gog and Magog war in which Russia, Iran and Turkey appear to be the main players in the coalition coming against Israel.

The church apologises.

The growing apostasy in the Church of England

The House of Bishops of the Church of England issued a pastoral statement saying that sex belongs only within heterosexual marriage. The statement said: “For Christians, marriage – that is, the lifelong union between a man and a woman, contracted with the making of vows – remains the proper context for sexual activity.”  The guidance said “sexual relationships outside heterosexual marriage are regarded as falling short of God’s purpose for human beings”, and that people in gay or straight civil partnerships should be sexually abstinent.

The archbishops of Canterbury and York then apologised over the statement issued by Church of England bishops which declared that only married heterosexuals should have sex.  Justin Welby and John Sentamu said they took responsibility for releasing the statement which “jeopardised trust”. The archbishops’ statement said: “We as archbishops, alongside the bishops of the Church of England, apologise and take responsibility for releasing a statement last week which we acknowledge has jeopardised trust. We are very sorry and recognise the division and hurt this has caused.”

You really couldn’t make it up.  The supposedly evangelical archbishops have to apologise when for once in a while the Church of England makes a statement which lines up with biblical teaching.

They went on to say that the Church is engaged in a process “intended to help us all to build bridges that will enable the difficult conversations that are necessary as, together, we discern the way forward for the Church of England.”  It is clear that the bridges they want to build are towards those like Jayne Ozanne, the leading campaigner for LGBT+ inclusivity in the church. She said the guidance had made the C of E a “laughing stock”, added: “We await the evidence that they have truly heard and taken onboard our concerns by what comes out of the Living in Love and Faith report.  I – along with thousands who signed our letter – look forward to understanding what a ‘new radical Christian inclusion’. means for those of us who have been excluded for far too long.”

The LGBT lobby wants the inclusion of practicing homosexuals inside the Anglican communion and clergy and the acceptance of homosexual marriage by the church. They also want the church to change biblical teaching on the sanctity of marriage and remove passages that define homosexual practice as sinful like Leviticus 18.22 (‘You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination’) and Romans 1.24-27.  Another verse which has to change is Genesis 1.27: ‘So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.’  This must be deleted because it offends transgenders with the teaching that the difference between male and female is part of God’s order in creation and cannot be changed by men who want to be women and women who want to be men.  So we must rewrite the Bible to please the homosexual lobby and submit to its agenda.

Homosexual and transgender propagandists want to control what is said and taught at every level of our society, including the church.  Many of the high clergy of the C of E, in particular the new designated Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, are willing to submit to their demands. He believes biblical teaching on sexuality should come second to 21st century Western cultural beliefs.  Bishop Cottrell made his comments on the Bible in 2017 as he welcomed the Archbishops of Canterbury and York’s plea for a “radical new Christian inclusion”. He said it would be wrong to ignore the “damage” that is done by rejecting Western society’s current view of human sexuality.  “I am not sure the church has ever before had to face the challenge of being seen as immoral by the culture in which it is set.” He also claimed, in the same address to leaders in his own diocese, that taking a biblical view on same-sex relationships “can legitimise homophobia in others”.

Speaking of Bishop Cottrell’s appointment to be Archbishop of York, the second highest position in the Church of England, Andrea Williams of Christian Concern for our nation said:

“Promoting Stephen Cottrell to Archbishop of York makes clear the direction of travel of the C of E.  This is a Bishop who endorses gender transition in primary school children.  Stephen Cottrell has told multiple clergy on multiple occasions that if they don’t like the approach of the diocese on human sexuality they can leave the CofE. Stephen Cottrell has attempted to deny this, but there are more than thirty clergy who know what they heard him say on multiple occasions.

“Stephen Cottrell has held out the prospect of the CofE doctrine of marriage changing. “This is not a Bishop who respects Biblical truth when it comes to human sexuality or marriage.  “Several clergy in Stephen Cottrell’s diocese are out of communion with him because of his stance on human sexuality. One resigned over this. For him now to be appointed as Archbishop of York is a final insult to those who want to hold onto Biblical teaching in the C of E.

“It is now clearer than ever that the C of E is determined to act in total disregard of those who hold the basic truths that God created us male and female and that sexual expression is reserved for marriage between a man and a woman.

“Stephen Cottrell’s diocese is prepared to host a carol service and nativity which actually changes the words of carols to avoid saying that Jesus is Lord, King or Saviour. What will he endorse as Archbishop of York?

“The appointment of Stephen Cottrell as Archbishop of York is another marker in the sad and sorry decline of the C of E and its willingness to depart from clear Biblical teaching.”

Coming back to the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby has also said that he is “ashamed” of his “white advantage, educational advantage, straight advantage and male advantage.”  He also said he is ashamed of the Church’s attitude towards black people, likening their treatment to how the Church treated Jews in Nazi Germany.

So apparently those of us who are Christian, white, male, and heterosexual have to be ashamed of this fact, because we are unfairly advantaged and guilty of racism as bad as the Nazis in the way they treated the Jews.  That is really offensive to the Jewish people who lost 6 million in the systematic extermination camps of the Nazis. The Archbishop is pandering to the new racism of the ‘woke’ mentality which judges white males as guilty of most of the problems of humanity and BAME people as eternal victims of white racism.  This is actually a denial of Martin Luther King’s dream ‘I look to a day when people will not be judged by the colour of their skin, but by the content of their character.’  In the ‘woke’ mentality there is a reverse racism that judges people by the colour of their skin, and it is generally ‘white man bad, black man good’, regardless of the content of their character.

The thing the Archbishop should really be ashamed of is his lamentable failure to stand up for the Lord Jesus Christ and the Gospel. The Church is not on the road to a ‘new radical Christian inclusion’ but the old Babylonian apostasy which is removing the one bridge that really matters from the people, the Gospel message that connects us to our Holy God.  He should pay heed to the last words of the Apostle Paul in his letter to Timothy:

‘I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead [at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil your ministry.’  2 Timothy 4.1-5.
